Welsh Academy football

Chwarae allan, agor fyny, dwyn, sefyll and gwasgu are some of the terms used within the Bala Town FC Academy.

For those that aren't up on their Welsh, these words translate to play out, open up, pinch it, stand up and squeeze - pretty standard football terms. To support player development and deliver consistent messages throughout the Academy, both players and coaches needed to be clear on the language used.

Bala’s Academy Terminology is just one of the guiding documents included in their custom-made coaches app recently commissioned for the Club.

Carwyn Edwards – Head of Coaching and Head of Youth Development also helps lead his team of coaches by providing their Coaching Philosophy, Coach Methodology, Academy Game Model, Positional Profiling attributes and his Coach Development Programme within the app. These essential tools, along with a range of practices for session building and a player profile report generator, complete the app which is available to the Club’s coaches direct from the app stores.

“The player report will be especially helpful for assessing individual key attributes across the Four Corners of player development.

In terms of recruitment, we can assess players to give us an insight on their potential to join our Academy programme,” Carwyn said.

“As an Academy we strive to excel in player and coach development. We aim to do this by having a clear coaching philosophy and methodology, and having our resources in one app is going to work very well for us.”

Steeped in history dating back to the 1880’s, Bala Town Football Club is a Welsh football team that currently play in the JD Cymru Premier. The Academy caters for players from u8s to u19s.
